Closing the Alerts Loop

We've all heard - and probably used - the phrase "closed loop". Generally speaking, "closed loop" refers to a completed process; a process which starts, goes through some number of steps, and then - critically - completes in a way that leaves no room open for debate as to whether the process really got done.

You know where you stand with a closed-loop process. Even if the process ends in failure, you know it - you're not left wondering whether the process did complete, and whether it completed successfully or not.

Which brings us to the subject of Alerting Software. What defines whether an Alerting Application is a "closed-loop" system or notω Some people would argue that any alerting solution that sends out notifications is a closed-loop system - after all, if the purpose of the system is to trigger alerts, isn't the loop "closed" once the alert (somewhat like Elvis) has "left the building"ω

Not for me it's not.

And if we continue with the Elvis metaphor for a moment, you could make the argument that the loop isn't closed when the King has left the building, but that it is closed once his majesty makes an appearance at his next gig. (I.e., "Elvis has entered the building!")

Nope - still not good enough.

You see, for me, the King not only has to enter the location of his next gig, he's got to hit those first few chords of "Jailhouse Rock" to prove to me he's really going to deliver.

And that's the acknowledgement I need to call this loop closed.

KnowledgeSync Version 9.0: Closing the Loop with "Alert Acknowledgements"

Now if we return to Alerting Software (apologies, Elvis fans!), the analogy works:

It's nice to know when an alert has been sent

It's helpful to know when an alert has reached its intended recipient

But . . .

Until a recipient physically acknowledges the receipt and review of the alert - and confirms whether they'll be able to take the required action to address it, the loop is not closed.

And that's why Vineyardsoft is very pleased to announce the availability of KnowledgeSync Version 9.0 - Alert Acknowledgements - now available for downloading from the following site: (KnowledgeSync V9.0 Download) (Sage Alerts & Workflow V9.0 Download)

Version 9.0: Alert Acknowledgements

Vineyardsoft is very excited to be the pioneer of a ground-breaking new technology when it comes to monitoring critical business data and delivering the right information to the right people at the right time:

Alert Acknowledgements.

It's exactly as you imagine - a way for a recipient of an alert to say:

-- "I've received this critical message."
-- "Yes; I will be able to take care of the task assigned me."
-- "No; I won't be able to do that and here's why . . . "
-- "Ok; I will be able to do that, but with these considerations . . . "

Alert Acknowledgements will support six "types" of acknowledgements:

- Acknowledge. (the recipient has received and acknowledged the alert)

- Acknowledge Plus Response. (the recipient acknowledges the alert and details what action will be taken)

- Acknowledge Yes/No. (the recipient acknowledges the alert and answers 'yes' or 'no' to a question within the alert)

- Acknowledge Yes/No Plus Response. (the recipient acknowledges the alert, answers 'yes' or 'no' to a question within it, and adds their own comments)

- Acknowledge Yes/No/Cancel. (the recipient acknowledges the alert and answers 'yes', 'no' or 'cancel' to a question within the alert)

- Acknowledge Yes/No/Cancel Plus Response. (the recipient acknowledges the alert, answers 'yes', 'no' or 'cancel' to a question within it, and adds their own comments)

KnowledgeSync Version 9 - Alert Acknowledgements - is available today. (As is the Sage Software branded version of KnowledgeSync, "Sage Alerts & Workflow".)
